I am due to pick up my new E-Pace this month and I decided to look into insurance. Naturally I asked for a quote from Jaguar and it came to just over £600. I also got a quote from other insurers and they all came to just under £300. One, with a very reputable insurer was £290 with half the excess of the Jaguar insurance as well as under half the price. I phoned them and they said that they were more than happy to let me use a franchised Jaguar dealer to fix any accident repairs, the only proviso is that I would not be able to be guaranteed to get a courtesy car. So what am I missing? Why pay twice as much?

Brand insurers always seem to be much more expensive, just like the gap insurance the dealerships try to flog which you can usually get elsewhere for half the price.

I presume there are people who do take the insurance out, but I suspect it is mainly those who don't/won't/can't shop around for better deals. Everyone's circumstances are different, but it only cost me an extra £7 to amend my existing policy up until it expires in whereas, as with your experience, the insurance quote from Jag was well over double the price.

For me it ended up being £50 cheaper than for my 7 yr old Mini Countryman. In fact, the quote was so low (£216) the advisor referred it to a 'colleague' who went through all the details to double check - but it was all good and valid. After expecting £350 to £400, it was a pleasant surprise, which is not something one can say very often when talking about insurance!
