Since the metal surroundigs of the gear shifter glares disturbingly in bright sunlight, I wonder if it would be a good idea to have it foiled in a darker colour...

Here's what I managed with my Evoque a few years ago. $30 roll of vinyl from super cheap auto and a scalpel. The first time I put the car in for service the dealership asked me where I got it done so they could sent other customer who were complaining about the bright aluminium dash.
They couldn't believe I did it myself.
Looked just as good the day I traded it in.

Carbon wrap completed today
It's tricky to get the chrome surround out.
I can post instructions if anyone is interested.
I got the wrapping done at a local workshop for $50.
I think it looks pretty good. 0D11AC2D-4CA2-46DB-ACB0-7500FCC52B06.jpeg
That looks good. The glare/reflection is a pain in bright sunshine. Would be grateful if you could post instructions. Will try and find a local workshop to get it done.

I'm interested in this too!

Whoever thought it was sensible to have a chrome surround needs a strong word in their ear.

Removing the selector surround

1) lift the rubber mat in front of the selector

2) Undo the two torx screws under the mat

3) lift the entire panel (silver and black together ) with a lever

4) Use a small flat blade screwdriver to release the to clips at the rear of the panel to separate the silver panel from the black panel.

Sorry the pictures and text got mixed up a bit.
But I think you can get the idea.

To the person who suggested using real carbon fibre, that would be near impossible as the panel edges would have dags. You would never get as good a finish as with the vinyl film.

What an excellent idea!
There is plenty of room under the rubber pad and you could pick up power from the the cigarette lighter socket.
Problem is I like using CarPlay which requires the charging cable to be used
