Map Update

The latest Map Update is 33GB. To download it, therefore, requires a USB Memory Stick with a capacity of 33 GB or greater. But USB memory Sticks greater than 32 GB cannot be formatted to FAT as required by the update, they can only be formatted to the new exFAT of NTFS. The update tries and fails to reformat the drive. Does anyone know a solution?
Tring to use the chat channel is a waste of time.

Yes, its possible to do this using built in Windows facilities, but its incredibly complicated.
Your best bet is to download a 3rd party tool e.g. go to this page Ridgecrop Consultants Ltd and click on the picture to download the executable. Obviously do a virus check on that executable before actually running it!
Alternatively, if you buy a 64GB stick already formatted you can just re-use it, though you need to be super careful to make sure you eject the stick before removing to avoid corrupting the formatting. If you do, you are back scrabbling for a utility anyway.

I was going to suggest reading through the thread 'Navigation Map Updates' from a couple of years back, but mattrapier's advice sounds sensible. As a Mac user it seems to work (fingers crossed) without all that additional utility malarky.

Another Mac user here, and the inbuilt Disk Utility works fine for this.

As I'm a nosey/inquisitive IT type, I had a look around and echo what Matt said.

e.g. example here:

showing either the use of a 3rd party app to do the formatting on a 64 stick:

https://fat32-format.en.softonic.com/ (do your own virus scan, definitely on anything you download from the internet)

OR
if you're happy trying a bit if very easy to write code, the first link suggests you can do it at a Powershell terminal manually, which should be ok to follow for most.

Good to see Microsoft making it easy again, ;-)
