Navigation Map Updates

Just wanted to let everyone know that I've successfully updated the installed maps today. For once the process ran exactly as Jags website said it would and installed with no problems. In brief the process was;

Download the maps from the jaguar navigation website to a Usb stick. They were about 25GB so the website suggested a minimum of 32GB for the usb stick. I got a usb3 one on amazon for about ÂŁ8. The download time obviously depends on your internet speed but mine took about 4 hours

Insert the usb stick into the car. This then automatically triggers the update process. You need the engine running throughout the update, but you can drive the car while it is happening in the background - but you'll have no sat nav during the update. The rest of ICTP works fine though. The update took about 15mins in the car.

Happy to answer any questions

Hi,

Having had the e-pace for 6 months I thought I would update the Sat Nav. Read all the info on here and bought a 64gb usb as the current update is 33gb! Why I would need Russia I don't know. Anyway, took an age to download to usb and went to upload to car. Followed all the steps with car running etc and after about 15mins get message saying "cant update, refer to dealer." but it has also wiped the original maps, so I don't have any maps loaded! Tried again, same thing.

Have wiped the USB and downloaded maps again, so will give it another go tonight.

Am I missing something, any ideas??

There is a map update released every month, so in the 2 years since I bought the car I have probably done 24 monthly updates. Make sure you reformat the USB stick before downloading the update and make sure you have formatted it FAT32. Windows PCs cannot format sticks larger than 32Gb as FAT32 without additional software (I'm a MAC user so don't have that problem). When the update has downloaded I normally plug in the USB stick, start the engine, switch off the stop/start, then follow the update instructions on the screen. I usually go for a drive of about 20mins. Once the update has finished it looks as though the update may have failed, but wait a few minutes then try reloading the navigation app and you should get a message something like "finishing install" then it should spring back to life. Hope that helps.

Since we are all having a quiet Xmas I thought I would take the opportunity to update my maps again, having followed the advice on here last time round. No problem I said, Big Mistake!
After countless "refer to dealer" messages and hours spent re-downloading the maps still no joy, but I was doing it the same as last time!

Eventually after trawling forums I found a post on F-Pace forum saying that some JLR Tech had told an owner that the Jag's are picky about the type/make of usb stick used. So on this basis I bought another one!
This time a Kingston 64gb USB 3.0 recommended by JLR (but they don't tell you) and hey presto it worked 1st time.

How hard do they need to make it to update a ÂŁ40k car. :x

Will be updating my maps for the first time - as soon as we're allowed to drive a reasonable distance.
How long does the in-car process take?

Hi Jiggyjag, the download usually takes about 11/2 hrs, (the file is currently 33gb) depending on broadband speed, mine is 68mb, then about 20 mins to upload to car, I use a Sandisk 64gb USB 3 , the maps are basically split into continents, this is why you end up with Russia, as Russia is trans-continental, part classed as Europe part as Asia, sorry for geography lesson but the question of why Russia is included, hope this helps you, Tony p.s you can just put USB into car and leave idling on drive if necessary

Many thanks Tony,
I'm using a SanDisk 64gb USB 3 also.
Good to know it's only a short time in car - will go for a quick spin.

I too use a Kingston 64gb stick, not sure if that was after a recommend, I know I started with another brand 32gb in May 2018 and had to change as the file size approached 30gb and the Mac said the stick wasn't big enough. I usually start the car, let the Satnav load and then insert the stick, I used to insert the stick before starting the car, both methods usually work but sometimes have to remove and re-insert.

Any body know how much it will be to renew subscription to this service after 3 years? I'm sure I'll bother as don't trust the maps as well as Google maps through Apple Carplay although it is more convenient.

ÂŁ89 for one year or ÂŁ129 for 3 years subscription. Still expensive but the 3 year seems the better option.

Is anybody using the Jaguar Satnav after their update subs has expired, does it work alright??
I'm tempted not to renew and use Google through Apple Carplay but I have found a couple of time in amongst tall buildings this gets a bit confused and unreliable.
