Hi, I have not been in my wife E Pace for 6 months and at 30MPH the engine has a whistle noise which is very annoying, I haven't heard this before but now I can hear it i find I have to turn the radio up, is this a fault or a standard noise you get with this engine, it's the 2.0L 180 diesel, the car was new in September last year and has done 9000 miles.

Mine doesn't do that. Same engine, 20000 miles.

Just had my D180 in for its first service and they say there's a whine when lifting off the throttle. I haven't heard it but if it's been an incremental thing perhaps I wouldn't have noticed.

Needs new balance shafts apparently, fairly common it seems. 4-5 days work to get the whole engine out etc...glad it's warranty but slightly worrying. Car has done 18000 miles.

Hi nugpot,re your engine whistle .l had exactly the same problem with my D150 engine and suspected turbo after 6500 miles but I am sure you will find it is the engine balance shaft bearings on the way out.My vehicle was in for 12days as no spare parts were available!!! I've done 12000 miles now without any problem(other than engine Amber warning light on continually)which meant a new oxygen sensor was required.If you haven,t already I recommend you get it into your dealer ASAP & request a loan car.Good luck!!
