PHEV questions

Post by Pwood » Sun Jul 18, 2021 11:31 am

I bought an new EPace PHEV yesterday and pick it up next Thursday! I know it’s comes with a charging cable for wall chargers but not one for three sockets. The Jag one cost £300 but I believe it’s only 3 meters however I can’t be sure as there is not detail on the Jag website on the length just the price. Can anyone tell me how long it is as I can’t see me getting a wall charger that soon and right now 5 hours to 80% would be fine until I can fathom out the best wall charger to go for and the whole EV thing.

Normally I am prepared but the in stock PHEV and deal was unexpected hence looking for some tips from owners on here. I can also buy a 5m cable from loads of sites for around £150 and again not sure of the pro and cons as manufacturers tend to charge a lot more for the same thing?

The Jag one seems to be 5m. I found the info on the Jag accessories website (french version).

Cheers Shadow. 3m did seem stupidly short. Aftermarket ones are around £180 as the Screwfix ones are out of stock which is hardly surprising.

Hi Pwood I got a 10m one from thirdrockenergy for £215 including a bag as the Jaguar one wasn't long enough which I have going spare if you want the Jaguar one .

Thanks Dc63 I’ve looked at Thirdrock and they sell a 7m one which would be ideal for a bit more flexibility although that’s Out of stock. Will call them to check when it’s due in. Never seen anything other than 5 and 10m elsewhere. I need to measure the distance again as didn’t allow for elevation and stuff. Appreciate the offer of your old one will keep in mind cheers. Btw do you just use the granny cable all the time or do you have charger yet for home use as well.

Seems further £250 grant from the energy trust provided I use their approved installers is available in Scotland for a home charger which is not that well known. However waiting on a reply from them as Evoque is listed but only I Pace for Jaguar. Still getting my head around getting a car so soon and all the usual stuff that entails.

Hi Pwood,
I use the granny cable most of the time as I don't have off road parking , my work is looking into getting a charging point fitted for me as they can also get a grant .

Podpoint recently installed 4 points at my nearby Tesco which is free to use whilst shopping. I’m gonna have to try that as Tesco take a lot of my money already. I assume you are aware of Tesco’s offering albeit I think it’s just 7kw so it’s a minor top up in a typical hour long shop. If anyone else curious the list of stores is shown here https://www.motoringelectric.com/chargi ... point/amp/

Went for the 10m Thirdrock Energy cable after speaking with the owner who was really helpful. Cheers for the recommendation Dc63.

Hi Pwood I've found if you use it on the highest setting the plug gets quite hot but if you use it on the lowest it stays cool and takes around 7 hrs to fully charge .

Cheers, my neighbour fitted my outside socket a while back and is an electrical engineer who fits chargers for his work and he said 10A was best for resilience as 13 as you found is the max and plug would get very hot . If it’s wasn’t for the two grants totalling £600 he would have fitted one.

Got my cable today and seems very good quality. Also got my Charge Scotland card which is £20 for a year and charging is free thereafter.
